COVID-19 UPDATE

Liberty Motorsports 2021 Update:
Liberty Motorsports is proud of the progress we made in the 2019-2020 school year, and we want to share with you some of our accomplishments. Though we are still brand new, our team hit many milestones. We now have over 50 members and 7 proficient subsystems, we welded the first ever LMS chassis, and above all, established a standard that consistently strives to exceed expectations.
In the next school year, we are excited to face new challenges and see more progress. With many members of our leadership team graduating, we are taking time now and over the next few months to work toward an efficient transfer of information into next year. Early in the 2020-2021 school year, Liberty Motorsports will run our vehicle for the first time and begin track testing; the remainder of the year will be spent ensuring we produce a high-quality car, testing, and refining our vehicle.
Like so many recent events in your lives and ours, we too were sad, but not surprised when the Formula SAE organization announced that, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, all 2020 competitions will be conducted online, and all teams registered in the 2020 race will be guaranteed a spot in 2021. As a result of this announcement, LMS adapted. We adjusted our routines to adhere to the CDC guidelines, and we continued work on the vehicle. When Virginia announced that no clubs or teams could meet in a public place, we stopped work physically, and continued work on the vehicle virtually. After careful deliberation and consultation with our faculty advisor, and with a 2021 spot in hand, Liberty Motorsports decided to pull out of the 2020 competition.
We are excited to pick up work on our vehicle in the Fall and see where next year takes us. LMS would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to this team, and we hope that everyone stays safe and healthy during this chaotic time. We will continue to provide updates as they arise.
